In what was a pleasant surprise I received this certificate in the post today. It turns out my studio was winner in the category of Best Graphic Design in the Association of Irish Festival Events annual supplier awards sponsored by Rocket Pyrotechnics which were held in Sligo last month. The award was for work on the 2010 Cork Midsummer Festival.

Its nice to get this recognition — my studio has become something of a festival specialist. Over the past 19 years we have worked on nearly 40 separate festivals, including fourteen consecutive Wexford Festival Operas, three consecutive Cork Midsummer festivals, ten consecutive Cat Laughs comedy festivals, three consecutive Southern Soul and Disco festivals, eight Cork Film festivals and one Kilkenomics economics & comedy festival.

The London Design Festival published a one hour typography challenge on 2nd of December. Designers are asked to select one from a list of over 80 quotes on design and use it as the basis of an A4 typographic poster. For my entry above I chose a quote by Victor Papanek (1927—99), author of the very influential Design For The Real World:: Human Ecology and Social Change (1971).
